New Year, New Challenges

I want to start out by wishing everyone a happy 2015. This year brings new challenges and most importantly, new opportunities for me to grow as a photographer. After moving towards more positive outcomes in terms of providing better quality in both my shots and post production, I’ve decided to come out of my cocoon and spread my wings!

I will be utilizing my blog more often and getting out more to shoot.

I was invited to participate in my first 30 day challenge of posting a different picture everyday. This is exactly what I need to push me outside of my comfort zone and explore new ideas.

My first post is a self portrait. I used a one light set-up with a silver reflector for fill. Emphasizing here that I need to move out of my comfort zone which is using flash, I particularly opened the shutters in my living room to let some natural light in and use it as backlighting. I believe the shot came out ok but am open to feedback. I used a Nikon D610 on a tripod and a Sigma 85mm 1.4 lens. I also went with an off camera flash mounted on a 22 inch beauty dish. I used various aperture settings but kept my shutter speed at 1/25 and used ISO 200. In post, I did minor adjustments in LR5 and finished with some spot healing and a high pass filter along with a crop to finish.
